EUREKA STUDIO | A RURAL COMMUNITY DESIGN CENTER
We are a rural community design center. We originated within the Small-Town Studio at Kansas State University, College of Architecture, Design and Planning as an outreach facility.
We offer design and planning services on a sliding scale fee structure. We offer realistic solutions to rural problems; we rely on instinct and ingenuity, and we have a no non-sense process to evaluate projects and offer solutions that are workable. We are a regional center for rural engagement, where University and non-university participants can engage in events and exhibits that explore these issues. The Studio is structured to provide a unique and innovative off campus classroom environment to support work among students, faculty, professionals, and the community. Eureka Studio is a design laboratory environment that explores alternatives for the future of rural towns throughout the Flint Hills region. Eureka Studio builds awareness and provides real world engagement of the issues that face small towns across Kansas and the opportunities that exist. The LAB is host to a group of creative individuals and small collectives working in a variety of disciplines, including design, architecture, fine arts, sculpture, graphic design, web development, illustration, writing, and film making.
STUDIO II – ACTIVATE SPACE
Develop space for new creative places that will emerge as the region develops its creative core. This includes space for business development, educational institutions, studios, and live-work facilities. Help build a boutique industry in building, renovation and “locally grown foods”.
STUDIO III – Design/Build and Partnership Development
Students and professionals develop space for new creative workplaces that will emerge as Eureka develops a creative core. This includes space for business development, educational institutions, studios and live-work facilities. Help build a boutique industry in building renovation and “locally grown foods”. Provide marketing and promotional assistance, grant writing assistance and business plans. A public relations agency for the city.
STUDIO IV – RESPONSIVE ARCHITECTURE
Architecture and Environmental Design providing residential and commercial space through redevelopment of vacant buildings and densification of downtown with new residential projects. To begin the task of providing adequate housing we have created a systems approach using components and a simple structural system to provide a series of housing units. They include clustered pocket neighborhoods, infill Vernacular styled houses and upscale lofts.
